Summer is on its way in just a few short weeks and with summer comes more diets and cleanses to get beach-ready. But, with little lifestyle changes, getting beach ready for the summer can be easier than ever! Let’s look at these five ways you can get ready for summer without really even trying!

Get more sleep. Getting more sleep actually helps you fight fat. Schedule the time you will go to sleep every night to ensure at least 8 hours of sleep! Studies have shown that less than 7 or 8 hours of sleep can increase your appetite and slow down your metabolism! We want the exact opposite of that so, do yourself a favor and go to sleep!

Get more active. Now that the weather is getting warmer, it’s a lot easier to increase your activity level. Park farther down the parking lot and take the stairs more often. Instead of sitting and watching television with your kids, take them to the park or out in the backyard and throw a ball around! You’ll see great benefits in your mind, body and soul!

Get rid of liquid calories. Juices, sodas, and alcoholic beverages just add up over time to huge calorie intakes! Water is all you really need to survive, so drink plenty of it! The best part is that it has no calories, so you can literally drink as much as you want! Tired of the flavor? Infuse a pitcher of water with frozen fruit overnight to make a refreshing glass of water! Try adding strawberries and kiwis to your water; it’s delicious!

It’s time to carb swap! Replacing foods like pasta, rice and bread with a variety of fruits and vegetables will help slim down that waistline just in time for summer! Not only do fruits and vegetables have less calories than processed carbohydrates, but they also are high in fiber to keep you fuller longer, and have high amounts of phytonutrients, vitamins, and minerals to keep your body running at its optimal potential! Try replacing spaghetti with spaghetti squash to start! Soon, you won’t want to go back!

Take it one step at a time. Don’t make so many changes overnight because you will forget about them as fast as it took you to start them! Start small and gradually get bigger to assure yourself that you can do it! Nothing ever happens overnight; it takes time. This summer will be great as long as you feel good about yourself and the positive lifestyle choices you are making! It’s okay to mess up sometimes too, just jump back in where you left off!

This summer looks like it is going to be a great one, and adding these little changes to your lifestyle will benefit you even more! Remember, by changing one thing at a time, you’ll start reaching goals in life and in health in no time!
